In the conference room, classroom, or living room,
we all want to experience rich color video and projection content. And the content that we create and experience in our professional and personal lives has evolved rapidly from basic black and white to the use of color to create impact. Color helps to tell a deeper, more compelling story and it's essential for enhancing communications in our work, home, and school lives.

That's precisely why this site has evolved. Its purpose is to help those who specify and buy projectors learn more about an important new spec in the world of projection technology. While there are established ways to measure brightness (White Light Output), measuring color quality has been a different story.

As projection technology advances, there continue to be noticeable differences among projector models. While some projector models focus mainly on delivering bright whites, for today's color-rich, multimedia content, viewers typically want a projector that delivers both optimum white and color. Until very recently, projector buyers simply haven't had a way to determine objectively if a projector is actually capable of delivering true to life color – a key component in providing optimum viewing experiences. That's why the industry has developed a new metric; it's called Color Light Output or CLO and it's a critical measurement of picture quality.

The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST)
has published a paper that includes more information about the benefits of Color Light Output specification. For more information click here. This federal technology agency works with industry to develop and apply technology, measurements, and standards and sets the standards for the projection industry.
